Mother Ada T. Maddox was born on July 26, 1923 in Jackson Mississippi to the parents of Aaron Smith and Amanda Turner Smith. Ada was the third oldest of ten children.
Ada was married to Carl Wilkinson, who preceded her in death. Ada worked at Maywood school in Hammond, Indiana as a baker. All who knew her remember her cookies, rolls and other specialty foods.
Mother Ada began her church work under Supt. E. and Mother Lula Smith. After their passing, Mother Maddox joined Memorial Church of God In Christ in Hammond, Indiana under the leadership of the late Pastor Lee and Mother Yvonne Frank where she faithfully served on the Nurses Board and then serving as Pastor’s Aide to Pastor Frank.
Upon retirement, Mother Maddox moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where she joined Faith Church of God In Christ under the leadership of the late Supt. Cleophas and Mother Estella Hall. After their passing, Mother Maddox attended Pentecostal Temple under the leadership of Pastor Wilson Ricks where she served faithfully as the Church Mother and Pastor’s Aide. Mother Maddox later reunited with Faith Church of God In Christ, now under the leadership of Pastor Robert Jackson where she remained until her death. Many days Pastor Jackson sat and prayed with her.
Mother Ada T. Maddox departed this earthly life for her heavenly home on Sunday, December 24, 2017 at the age of 94 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Clifford, Aaron Jr., Robert and Joseph; sisters Detta Smith, Anne Perkins and Ella Wilburn; and grandson Jeremiah Brown.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory her children; Deborah Wilkinson-Brown (Jerome), Rickey Wilkinson (Tina), Douglas, Sheldon and Duane Wilkinson, all of Indianapolis, Indiana, Carl, Jr., of Detroit, Michigan, Millicent Ross, Dawn Darcenell and step-daughter Kathleen Maddox of Hammond, Indiana; seventeen grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, one brother, Benjamin Smith of Chicago, Illinois and one sister Pat Laurant of Hammond, Indiana; a host of nieces, nephews, her Faith Church of God In Christ church family and many other relatives and friends.
